About B+ Mushrooms

STRAIN SPECIFICATIONS

The B+ is a relatively fast colonizer that fruits very easily and produces some large fruits in abundace. A hardy forgiving strain makes this an excellent choice for beginners as it grows easily in a variety of conditions. Colonization temperatures are 84/86 degrees F. Fruiting temperatures 74/78 degrees F. is optimal.

B+ is a strain of Psilocybe cubensis, a well-known hallucinogenic mushroom species. The B+ strain is popular with growers because it is easy to work with, accepting a very wide range of growing conditions and substrates and producing large, thick caps. Though not the fastest-grower among P. cubensis strains, B+ is not the slowest, either. Color can vary a little, depending on growing conditions; enthusiasts describe the large golden to caramel-color caps as “beautiful.”

About Psilocybe cubensis

It can be difficult to learn much about P. cubensis besides its use as a “magic” mushroom, since many writers focus on that one point to the exclusion of all else. Yet even if a person’s primary interest is the “magic,” learning about the mushroom provides necessary context.

P.cubensis is one of a number of closely-related psychoactive species, though it is the most well-known (there are also other psychoactive mushrooms that are not closely related to P. cubensis and have somewhat different effects)The substances responsible for the psychoactive effects are psilocybin, psilocin, baeocystin, and norbaeocystin. The concentration of these substances can vary significantly from one individual mushroom to another.

Although P. cubensis is not generally considered toxic (but see note under Cautions!) it closely resembles a number of other species, including the aptly-named Deadly Galerina. Growing “magic mushrooms” at home is substantially safer than harvesting them wild, and multiple cultivated varieties, including B+, exist, often with creative, funny names.

Cap: Curved to flat on top, usually smooth. Variable in color, but generally light brown with a dark center. The interior flesh is white but bruises blue.
Gills: Initially gray, darkening to purple and then black, but usually with pale edges. Very young specimens still have a veil covering the gills.
Stem: Often very long. Whitish, but bruises blue. After the veil rips as the cap expands, veil remnants remain in a ring of tissue around the stem, like a skirt. Though the ring is actually white, once the purple spores are released some of them land on the ring and turn it purple.
Spore Color: Purple.
Habitat: In the wild, P. cubensis feeds on and fruits from cattle dung. It is distributed over much of the world, in part because it follows cattle; cattle egrets, birds that specialize in hunting insects near cattle, carry the spores to new pastures.

Growing B+ Mushrooms

There are several different ways to grow B+ mushrooms. The simplest, especially for beginners, is to use a commercially available, already-inoculated grow kit. More advanced growers have plenty of other options, though. There are grow kits that are not yet inoculated with mycelium (bottles of liquid culture come with the kit or can be ordered separately). Or it’s possible to start from scratch, mixing and sterilizing the substrate at home and inoculating it with culture grown from spores. Starting from scratch does require a bit more know-how, but it yields more consistent results.

Please note, however, that in many jurisdictions growing psychoactive mushrooms is illegal, though possessing the spores or liquid culture usually isn’t. That means suppliers are not breaking the law to sell spores or culture or un-inoculated substrate or other supplies—but putting these items together and growing mushrooms may be a very serious crime. Again, it’s important for new, would-be growers to learn about current law in their area, to avoid breaking the law by accident. Regardless of the law, this doesn’t stop people from microdosing mushrooms.

B+ Magic Mushrooms

All you need to know about the B+ Magic Mushroom

B+ Magic Mushrooms: Ahhh the B+ magic mushroom, a best seller at The Magic Mushroom Shop and a big favorite among mycologists, beginners and first time trippers. Let’s take a closer look at this popular cubensis strain, known for it’s richness and solid performance.

Introduction to B+ mushrooms

The B+ magic mushroom is a Psilocybe cubensis, a species of psychedelic mushroom. It’s main active elements are psilocybin and psilocin. The p. cubensis species is the most known psilocybin mushroom. Their status is established because p. cubensis are widely distributed and very easy to cultivate.

B+ history

The story behind the Psilocybe Cubensis B+ strain contains some mystery. The legend has it that a dedicated cultivator from Florida, called Mr. G., developed the strain. It just so happens that he produced an extraordinary strain that would take over the cultivation community by storm, maintaining the title of the best selling strain since the 90’s.

B+ characteristics

  •  Cultivation difficulty: Very Easy
  •  Substrate: Dung, Straw, Various grains
  •  Potency: Moderate
  •  Colonization time: 8-15 days
  •  Colonization temperature: 28 – 30 Celsius
  •  Fruiting temperature: 23 – 26 Celsius

And in addition to physical appearance, it’s noteworthy that the B+ ranks high in it’s quality and abundance of spores. Advanced cultivators, who make their own spore prints, will be pleased to know that the B+ is a heavy spore depositor.

Big mushrooms

The B+ strain is a large growing cubensis strain. It can grow from big to huge and you will notice some of the widest mushroom caps that will burst out of the grow bag. Because our flexible friend likes growing inside, it is possible to grow this strain in the comfort of your own home.

Resilient and strong

The B+ Magic Mushroom is one of the most resilient strains.  There are many stories about people throwing the substrate in the garden, and then finding that it started growing at that same spot one year later. Sounds amazing, right? A gift that keeps on giving!

Self assured and adaptable. Ideal for beginners who might overdo it with spraying or contaminate their kit as they handle it improperly. This strain quickly adjusts and grows in various temperatures, conditions, and substrates. One of a kind!

Effects

The B+ is known to give one of the warmest visual and spiritual trips. Especially for a first homegrown trip.

When looking at various sites, notably Erowid, you will notice that the B+ generates some of the most positive feedback.

The strain
The B+ strain is still highly sought after due to the larger than average fruit sizes, some reportedly reaching up to 14 inches in length. When compared to other P. cubensis strains, the B+ is often considered a giant fruiter. Average fruit body heights reach six to eight inches with caps averaging one to three inches in diameter during later flushes. Very large fruits can be expected on more nutrient rich substrates such cased grains, manure, compost and straw.

B+ Magic Mushrooms
The B+ is a domesticated hybrid mushroom of unknown origin. Under a microscope, this strain closely resembles a P.cubensis but shares some characteristics resembling a P.azurescens.

It’s a unique P.cubensis strain and performs very well indoors making it a popular strain for home hobbyists. It tends to yield larger than average fruitbodies that range from moderate to potent for a P.cubensis strain.

The infamous B+ strain of cubensis… what a chameleon this one is. This is by far the most versatile cubensis around. Adapting and growing in such a wide range of temperature conditions and substrates in nature.. It truly thrives to spread its seed, which by the way its a very heavy spore depositor. The B+ has been witnessed growing outdoors in nature fruiting several times in a wide range of temps and substrates. Several times one winter, night time low of 45F, day high of 60F, the B+ just flourished. Spring/summer, low of 75F, high of 90F, the B+ once again fruited beautifully. We’ve heard so many good reports back from growers in Amsterdam that just love this mushroom and how easy it grows, and how beautiful it is, its loved by many.

Although the B+ is not a super fast colonizer, its speed is average, producing some very large mushrooms that are generally a caramel color. When growing in nature in cooler temperatures, it usually always produces a very beautiful color caramel cap and stems. The stems are generally very thick, and it produces some large caps. It also drops a very thick veil. When growing in warmer temperatures, it’s color changes to a more golden color at times.
